When it comes to eating elephants are very unique. Elephants are herbivores that means they only eat plants and fruit. 80-90 percent of an elephant's day which is 22 hours they are eating plants. They eat leaves, plants branches, bark, fruit and seeds. Elephants can eat three hundred pounds of food a day which is a lot! But the amount of food they eat they only digest 44 percent of it. Even though it might be hungry the elephant will not tear down a tree for food. Instead of tearing down a tree for food they will migrate and travel for miles. In one country elephants migrate 7500 miles every year just for food and water, if I was an elephant I would rather tear down a tree. Elephants will travel really far but we can just go to a grocery store. A baby elephant will drink from its mother for about three years. Elephants eat a lot of plants.
